Delta Bentley S Series 4-in-1 Crib White Review

My wife and I are expecting next spring, but as most parents do, they go ahead and get their furniture prior to the baby arriving. I'd like to think that my wife and I are like any loving set of parents. We would do anything for our child but our thought processes are also based on practicality. When we first visited USA Baby (a nationwide baby specialty store) and Babies R Us, we were surprised to find that various furniture they had in their showroom was as expensive if not more expensive than the full bedroom suite we have in our master bedroom (includes nightstands, beds, multiple dressers, mirror, etc). Some of the cheapest "suites" were around $1600+ and if our child is going to use it until she's at least a teenager with the growing pains of her abusing her own furniture over the years, I'm not willing to spend that much. My wife then went to Target, saw the Delta line (she was happy with the appearance & construction) and then we made our choices based on their website.

First and foremost, I want you to know that my wife mix & matched our baby's furniture from various product lines from Delta. The crib is this one you're reading the review about, the dresser is the Delta Universal 6 Drawer Dresser, White and the changing table is Delta Eclipse Changing Table. All the furniture is white (finish number 100 by Delta's catalog). If you're going to go the same route as us (mix and match), make sure the finish number is the same across all the products you choose, otherwise you'll have mismatched finishes (Delta *DOES* offer an 'off-white' on one of their product lines). On a side note, the dresser, despite the name, is actually known as the "Delta Canton/Eclipse" product line on their webpage. On Amazon, it's known as "Delta Universal 6". If you compare the pictures of Amazon's vs that of the Delta Enterprise website, they are identical.

So now to the meat of the review... the crib. It's *VERY* important for you to know that the picture of the "Delta Bentley S" crib is *NOT* correct on Amazon as of 11/1/2013. The *ORIGINAL* Bentley features an arch on the backside of the crib. The BENTLEY S does not feature this arch. Per Delta's description on their website: "Delta's gorgeous sleigh 4-in-1 crib is designed to deliver timeless beauty, functionality, and outstanding value for years to come." If you go to Delta's website, look at both cribs. You can see the differences as they look very different.

Installation is straight forward. It consists of putting together the front part with a bar, then adding the sides, then installing the mattress support, then installing the back. Of the 3 Delta products, the Crib was the 2nd easiest (taking me approximately 1 hour and 25 minutes to assemble). I ended up installing the mattress support on the wrong pegs, hence adding an extra 10 minutes to my installation.

The finish of the white is a glossy, pure white (like bright white paper or even house baseboards "trim white"). It doesn't seem to scratch very easy and overall I was pleased with the finish all over each part. I did accidentally hit one of the pieces long pieces with my ceiling fan but there was only a dent. The paint stayed intact and the scuff from the ceiling fan was easily removed by a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. As for craftsmanship, I am very pleased with it. It's very sturdy and aesthetically pleasing. Honestly, I think it rivals that of the more expensive brands out there.

As for the mattress, the one I chose was Safety 1st Heavenly Dreams White Crib Mattress. This mattress fits PERFECTLY. No gaps and fits snugly inside the crib.

Finally, it's important to note that I did not purchase this on Amazon. I would have because it was available at one point back in October BUT now it doesn't seem to be available on Amazon any longer. There is a 3rd party selling it but it's $50 higher than Target. So I ended up buying it on Target.
