You can remove the hand-held while the rain-head continues to warm you. There is a switch on the head to go from both the rain-head AND hand-held being on, to just one of the heads. The hand-held has options for a strong spray to a gentle rain, with other choices in between. We subsequently bought another In2ition R Two-In-One for our second bath. Best price around, too! We are very happy with our purchases.
