This corkscrew works very well. The design of its screw embeds itself in a cork without tearing the cork apart as some others do. Simply turning the handle lifts the cork until it is out. Then turning the other way brings the screw out of the cork so that the cork is left where it can be easily discarded. This corkscrew is a way better value than another one I bought from Amazon (Cuisinart CTG-00-WIC Barware Winged Corkscrew). This is, in fact, the easiest to use corkscrew I have ever had. It's price when I bought it was middle of the road for corkscrews (about $10 when I paid over $15 for the much worse Cuisinart corkscrew). Relative to the $2 corkscrew I bought at my local convenience store to replace the Cuisinart-00-WIC this corkscrew is a better value. The one from the convenience store works OK and was very cheap. This one costs more but its operation is completely excellent. I love it.

With regard to the comment by another reviewer that the central screw portion can fall out from the rest of the mechanism during storage, I previously had a similar corkscrew (Metrokane Pocket Velvet Corkscrew, Black) that came in a clear plastic case. The case held everything together. The Metrokane corkscrew broke after several years of use--which is why I had to start looking for a new corkscrew. So far I have not had a problem with The Bar corkscrew separating into 2 parts in my drawer but I can see how that could have happened for the other reviewer. The manufacturer could add value to The Bar corkscrew by shipping it in a reusable case. Nevertheless, I find this the best performing corkscrew that I have personally owned.
