The set is pretty, the wood is very nice but the finishes are mediocre.

PROS:
1) Super fast and FREE delivery, the shipper contacted me five days from placing the order to schedule the drop off. Abs Freight was super! their customer service just wonderful.
2) Packaging was perfect. The boxes were just the right size, the items were very well protected so that nothing was damaged during shipment even though the exterior of the boxes was pretty beat up. Additionally, the boxes were easy to open. The pieces had tiny little marks but nothing of concern; I guess with pieces of that size it would be almost impossible that they would be scratch free. I used a Clorox wipe to clean them and almost all scuff marks came out.
3) The whole set is very efficient and functional, it does what it's supposed to do which is save lot of space while making the bedroom still look pretty.
4) The set is constructed of real wood, it is sturdy and well designed. The dresser (I got the 7 drawers) is well made, even the inside of the drawers is real wood.
5) Yipee!!! Three cheers for this feature: the dresser and bookcase are shipped fully assembled.

CONS:
1) Although Bolton Furniture is located in Morrisville, Vermont, their furniture is MADE IN CHINA :(
2) The bed assembly instructions are TERRIBLE, senseless narrative & no photos. But there is a quick/simple solution, go to "[...]" and click on "downloads section." Detailed instructions including diagrams are there.
3) The bookcase we received is defective, it has a gash in the very front of it. It was clearly not from shipping because the paint is in perfect condition, whoever inspected it is blind, I plan to exchange that piece.
4) While the set is very pretty and well constructed, the finishes are not. Joints are not smooth at all, some edges are not straight and the headset and footrest panels are not finished well (see attached photo #1). The worst piece is the bookcase, the paint is not even and spots were missed. The bed posts to extend the bed into a low loft are not flush with the bed legs.
5) We received all the pieces except for the wood caps that cover the screw holes. I'll have to contact the manufacturer to get them.
6) I called Bolton Furniture to obtain the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) to determine if the paint contained lead because of its China origin. Bolton referred me to their local retailer (Great Beginnings in MD); the confirmed the paint has lead but that it's within the legal limits for the US and its California 93120 compliant.

Overall, I am giving it four stars because the set is very pretty, functional and compared to similar furniture from Land of Nod or PB Kids, the price was sort of reasonable. And as always, Amazon's customer service was AMAZING!!!
