All American® Pressure Canner/Cooker Review

My wife bought this canner after a friend of hers bought one on Amazon. It was the first she'd heard of All American. The fact that it was Made in the USA appealed to her. We've been using this canner for the past couple of canning seasons and love it. We can always depend on it to work as it's designed to work. Probably it's best feature is that it requires no gasket, but instead has an easy-to-maintain metal-to-metal seal. The next best feature is that it has both a dial pressure gauge and the pressure regulator weight, which she calls "the jiggler." Each verifies that the other is working and you don't have to keep looking at the gauge to verify the correct pressure is being maintained. Just listen to the jiggler releasing steam 3-4 times each minute. One piece of advice: These are heavy duty canners. If you don't have the strength to lift a loaded canner off the burner (electric stove), consider buying a smaller model. If you have a gas stove, you don't need to lift it off when you turn off the heat so you're OK.

The fact it is non-stick is an added, but forgotten about bonus. It paid off when I did a decent size run of gumbo, everything cleaning nicely, but the beauty is the size. It stores inside the big brother in the pan drawer, and I change out and use the lid on my All Clad 10" sauce pan, which didn't come with a lid. Others more knowledgeable have spoken at length about the uniform heating qualities of All Clad, and yes, they are all true. You will use it and love it, and some day, hand it down to that deserving child that picked up the knack and love for cooking.
